About
EGGRA
Warren William Lewis and Richard G Roynon formed the East Gwent Genealogy
Research Agency (E.G.G.R.A.) several years ago. With
Warren living in Pontypool and Richard inTalywain, we have a vast local
knowledge of Family History for this particular area of East Gwent. We
are not a business and act as a non-profit
making concern to gather funds for our two supported charities. There
is no actual fee or hourly charge for the service we offer. All we ask
is you make a donation to cover our expenses that will include an amount
for the FRIENDS OF VARTEG GRAVEYARD and CANCER
RESEARCH UK.
Our
vast database of Genealogy material entails the Eastern Valley of Gwent
- Blaenavon in the North to Cwmbran in the South.
About
Family History
Have you ever wondered what your great grandfather did for a living, where
he worked and went to school?
Did you realise your great grandmother may have worked as a servant in
the Pontypool area for a select family, or even had a small business and
had servants of her own. That they married in the Parish Church at Trevethin
and all the family and friends wedding gifts were listed in the Free Press
of Monmouthshire newspaper for the neighbours to envy? These are some
of the interesting facts we may be able to trace for you in your Family
History quest.
If you would
like us to perform a search for your ancestors and provide you with a
print out of the results, which includes a family tree, then please contact
either Warren or Richard by snail-mail or E-Mail.

Our
Family History Archives
E.G.G.R.A. has amassed over 900,000 individuals in their genealogy databases.
These include, Non Conformist and Anglican records of Births, Baptisms,
Marriages, Burials and Deaths; Monumental Inscriptions; School Admissions;
Workhouse Records; Temperence Lists; Obituaries, Newspaper Archives; Photographs
relating to the Eastern Valley and the Roman Catholic Baptisms and Marriages
of St Albans, Pontypool. The above total of individuals does not include
the Census records which we hold of the Eastern Valley of Gwent, namely
1841 to 1901, most of which we have transcribed ourselves. See our
archives section for more information.
We
are responsible for the transcribing of several unique records one of
which is the Births, Marriages and Deaths from the local newspaper The
Free Press of Monmouthshire. The paper began in 1859 and is still in print
today. E.G.G.R.A. holds the database for this archive from 1859 to 1940
(1941 in progress). To help local genealogists, E.G.G.R.A. has donated
a copy of this database to the County Records Office at Cwmbran. Another
of the important databases that we feel is of importance to those concerened
with genealogy is School Admission Records. We have large databases of
all the schools in this area of Gwent apart from several Roman Catholic
Schools that we are in the process of acquiring for the County Records
Office, for whom we are Record Agents.
